As the year draws quickly to a close, we wanted to share some news about improvements we are making at dotPhoto to help our pro photographer and newspaper reseller clients to profitably grow your businesses today and in the coming year.*

Focus Group Improves dotPhoto’s Focus

On October 25 of this year, dotPhoto held a professionally moderated market research focus group in Mount Laurel, NJ, with a group of resellers randomly selected from hundreds of dotPhoto resellers. They represented a good cross-section of both full-time and part-time event photographers and others. The aim of this get together was for the dotPhoto executive team to hear, first-hand with no punches pulled, what is working and not working for our resellers. Our team stayed behind the scenes and listened hard. We learned where the points of pain are in your business in general and where we might help. Out of that meeting we have developed a list of site enhancements, new features and additional products to deliver to you. In the meantime, we did hear some things that are easy fixes, and we fixed them:

Lower Print Prices
Resellers expressed concern that some dotPhoto prices are not as price competitive as they once were. That’s easy, on October 31st, we lowered prices on nearly every size print and enlargement. Simply put, this means more money in your pocket.
PRINT SIZE ORIGINAL PRICE NOW
3x5 19¢ 15¢
4x6/D 19¢ 15¢
5x7 95¢ 89¢
8x10 3.75¢ 2.89¢
11x14 7.49¢ 7.29¢
4-Pack Wallets 1.49¢ 99¢
Additional New Products
In addition to traditional prints and enlargements, resellers tell us their clients want more options for preserving those special memories. Just in time for the holiday season, we have added the following new products:

· Full-border 4x8 photo greeting cards
· 15-oz. mugs in black
· 15-oz. mugs in white with chocolate kisses
· T-Shirts in black
· Sweatshirts in white
· 130-piece photo puzzles with tin
· 252-piece photo puzzles with tin
· 3 new poster sizes (16x24, 20x24 & 30x40)
· Canvas prints (16x20 & 20x30)

We have set the default pricing for these new items at a 100% mark up of your retail cost. If you would like to change pricing on these items simply sign-in to your account and edit your custom pricing.

New Pre-Paid Print Credit Packages
We know resellers can improve their profit margins with even better pricing on prints and enlargements, so we’ve created a number of new pre-paid print credit or “bulk” plans that offer deep discounts. Check out our new plans, but be warned, some of these are limited-time offers.

Your Clients Come First
Resellers expressed concern during the focus group that dotPhoto’s efforts to gain your clients as free members was turning them off. So, we’ve turned that process off and will no longer solicit your clients as they go through the purchase process.

Bugs Be Gone
If you had previously used the “Set Suggested Prices” in your account you may have noticed 18-month calendars and posters would not set above normal retail value. We fixed this bug to price items at 100% above your retail price. If you would like to change pricing on these items please sign-in to your account to edit custom pricing.

Personal Web Site
Some members of our research panel were not aware that professional photographers can make their own web sites at dotPhoto. We have made it easier by adding a link at the top of the page -- My Website -- and by creating a dotPhoto web site that teaches you how:
http://yourwebsite.dotphoto.com

Coming Soon . . .

“The Survey Says”
To deepen our knowledge of how we can help you as a photo reseller we’ll be taking many of the questions and issues raised during our focus group and asking you to complete an online survey. Not only do we get to hear from more of you, but it helps us to prioritize what should be accomplished first by our programming, customer service and marketing staff.

Increased Online Storage
We heard loud and clear that our resellers want their images to be online longer and we will be announcing increased free storage options at the beginning of the year. In addition, for those who want to keep their images up even longer, we’ll soon be offering better pricing for extended storage.

Faster Payments
Early in the new year we’ll also be improving our payment cycle to resellers so that you get paid more quickly. You’ll need to be set-up for electronic payment for this service improvement, so if your account is still set up for paper-check payment, now’s the time to changeover. Click here to sign-in to your account and set it for electronic payment or contact customer service via email here.

And that’s just the beginning. We thank our focus group attendees for their candid comments and their willingness to partner with us to improve dotPhoto. We wish them, as well as you, continued success in the New Year and thank you for your business.
