"Run The Route Mayor's Run on Route 66

Hundreds of runners and spectators got up early last Sunday morning to take part in the City of San Bernardino's 10th Annual "Run The Route Mayor's Run" on Route 66. This event was a 10K, 5K' and a Mayor's Mile kids run/walk. The Start and Finish lines were at the San Manuel Stadium near downtown San Bernardino.
The course snaked around the Downtown streets along the Historic Route 66", with all streets block to vehicular traffic. During the 5K run several participants walked, and other pushed their young children in strollers; many did run, while others ran with their pet dogs alongside.
Johnny Compos 17, was the first to run across the 5K Finish Line with a time of 16 minutes and 22 seconds! Jeannie Thompson of Highland, won first place in her category in the women's 55-59 age group.
Several groups came out to support the Mayor's Run, volunteering their time, including the American Red Cross Inland Chapter.
Saul Garcia 9, Nancy Vasquez, Jeffery Aguero 10, and Carmen Pacheco who won third place in her category in the women's 44-49 age group, are part of the "Exceeding Expectations Team". Carmen said that the Exceeding Expectations" is a group that promotes participation in triathlons and works with low income youth in San Bernardino.
Mayor Patrick Morris participated in the 5K at the Start line by sending the runners on their ways. Mayor Morris also announced the winners of the race, and personally congratulated the runners for their efforts.
Anthony Patterson 16, from Cajon High school was the first across the finish line in the 10K race with a time of 44 minutes, 47 seconds. Anthony is a full honors student and is also on the Exceeding Expectations Team!
The Mayor's run is truly a family event. Manuel Muniz from Highland, won second place in has category with a time of 21 minutes. Manuel and his wife ran the race with all their children Ricardo 9, Briana 10, and Rebecca 11. The kids attend Norton Space Academy, and the entire family attends Calvary Chapel of San Bernardino.
