Updated 08-23-2011. The Illinois Railway Museum was founded in 1953 and claims to have the largest collection of railroad rolling stock in the United States with over 400 locomotives and cars of all types (with over half on display at any given time). The museum operates its own 4.7 mile demonstration railway with free rides. It is located approximately 55 miles northwest of Chicago in Union, Illinois.
