How is a "classic" tugboat defined? That's in the eye of the beholder, and will probably be perceived differently in another 50 years. But to most, the "classic" is one whose profile resembles the old steam tugs, with their tall stacks situated a distance aft of the wheelhouse. Stack and wheelhouse have merged into a common structure in many of the more recent diesel tugs, though to some minds these would still be "classics." Another viewpoint might also include the retrating-hous canalers (which have their own gallery here) among the "classics." We've taken a liberal view here, including a variety of boats whose common thread is that they're good looking, and don't look like the most modern tugboats do. ========================================
