Brown Transportation Co. provides general harbor services in New York. Until recently its principal tugboats were smaller vessels, well adapted to shallower river areas and estuaries around New York. Their new tugboat, the John Brown, delivered in 2003, is a larger twin-screw tug equipped for heavy barge transportation work including petroleum barges and rairoad car floats.
