I got into Agra at 4:45 am and toured around the Red Fort before headding to the Taj Mahal. Time stands still at this monument, the large grounds disperse the crowds and you can ocasionally find respite in the side mosques and balconies. Make sure you go across the river to view the taj from a more majestic view.
