After a rain during the night, breakfast, talk and lunch, we set off by foot to the British Museum, which is not far from Jean-Luc's place. It was an incredible experience ambling through rooms and rooms of treasure and history from all over the world. We were not able to make it through every exhibit but did get an audio tour high light to touch on presentations of particular note. We went through rooms of Egypt, Greece, Rome, the ancient near East I & II, Roman Britain, Europe, and then last of all whipped through Africa at the very end. We just flat ran out of time marveling at the phenomenal collection of stuff carted to this place by the British empire! The Lindow Man probably hit me the hardest. The items of Greece and Rome left the deepest impression. After leaving there, which was close to 18:00, we walked, talking and sight seeing just taking in shops, buildings and street scenes--watching tons of people from all over the world, down to Piccadilly Circus, wandering around a bit, window shopping and people watching, finally to end up at Trafalgar Square again to catch the bus back to Morning Crescent and Jean-Luc's. We fixed some dinner, cleaned up and settled in as the wind rose and rain began again. We were lucky. The day was grey but the weather only happened when we were inside! Tomorrow... maybe a bus tour and a show, cold and wet permitting! |
