Earl Miller and I (Tarp Head) have long talked about starting at the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River (where I live) and float / boat to Apalachicola Bay (where Earl lives). We will make the trip with Earl, his son David and myself for the most part. Some sections of the journey will also include my wife, Desiree', as well as other friends.
On June 8, 2003, Earl, David, Desiree', Barbara Delgado, Elke Mathes and myself began the journey above Helen, GA by floating the upper part of the Chattahoochee river on inner tubes. We floated for about 4 miles. We floated into the city of Helen until we reached a point that the river could be floated with kayacks for the 2nd leg.
The second leg was on June 10th. Earl, David and I rented sit on top kayaks from the Wildwood Shop in Helen. We put in the Chattahoochee river just downstream from Nora Mill in Helen. We got in the river at Dr. Frank Williams house and floated downstream to Duncan Bridge. This was a journey of around 20 miles.
Stay tuned for the rest of the journey.
