The Aviculture Society of America (ASA) met at the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach, California. We were provided an informative and interesting slide show and lecture by Dr. W. Pasco, DVM (one of the founders of the organization). This center was developed primarily to respond to the need to help animals and birds involved with oil spills. However, it has evolved into much more. About 85% of the animals helped by this organization are birds - so it was really appropriate for the ASA to visit. We were able to tour facilities not normally available to the general public. Most of the employees are volunteers and very little money is spent on salaries. Almost all of their funds are spent on the animals and birds. This is a photo tour of their facility. Click on a photo to enlarge.
