Superlatives from 2010 and Earlier

My best examples in a range of exploratory techniques and styles from 2005 to 2010. These works cover the styles presented in the accompanying more recent albums, along with some varied show-stoppers in different techniques. Don't overlook these museum quality pieces from the vast store of my developmental concepts.

Painterly Styles, 2011-12

Works with textural surrealism, and organically created digital paintings. These latter paintings all began as line drawings on screen with a few flat-fill colors, the entire image then manipulated with a smudge tool like fingerpainting. No Photoshop-type imitative brushes or filters are used in my work, in order to keep it as organic as possible in the digital realm. Some of the works in this album are posterized (digitally altered) scans of tiny ATC paintings and drawings in conventional media.

Illustrational and Poster Styles, 2011-12

Minimalist and bright colors for poster or book illustration concepts. Here also are a few cartoons ("paintoons"), and some examples of my museum quality representational pieces. All of my digital work is done freehand from simple compositions by mouse or stylus tablet, or scans of original work in conventional media, using only non-imitative line and smudge tools.

star trails

Taking star trails is not an easy task. To take great star trail pictures one needs to have patience, right gear and best of all the right location. Most of my star trail shots were taken in the middle of winter their fore I had to make sure that my camera is stable enough outside that I will not get any blur. I also had to make sure to throw a blanket over my camera to protect it from freezing.
When I was taking my shots I took them from 11:15 to 12:00 o’clock at night did various combos with the settings to see what results I would get if I mixed them up. What I have noticed is that if I have higher iso and f4 aperture I get a lot of nicer colors but lot more noise. When I use iso 200 or 100 and f 5.6 I get less noise and I get small purple corners on my photos. However it is all up to the photographer.
How I took the shots: well you need to decide what location you want to photograph and what stars and what way do you want your stars to move. Yea it seems tricky but it is really simple. Ideal shot would be to find the small dipper and on then end of its tail is a north star or Polaris. If you focus on that you will get your stars to go in a perfect circle. If you decide to shoot away from the North Star you will get different results and star movement.
What I do is I try to focus on the sky instead of the subject just because if I focus on the stars I will have the foreground in nice view as well. When taking star trail pictures you must have a tripod and make sure it is secure. Put your camera to manual setting and move the shutter dial to bulb mode. After you focus on your subject turn auto focus off. Since I did not have shutter release cable I used a hair tie to take my pictures. Hair tie held my shutter button down for forty-five minutes. I do not recommend it because you will have to go outside and constantly check if it’s still holding the button down. After your camera is secured and everything is focused set a timer so you know when to go and let go the shutter button don’t turn your camera off let it work for thirty minutes or so to process the picture the more time you expose for the more time it will take camera to process the picture.
Processing the picture: after you import your picture to your computer all you have to do is open any picture program such as picasa or Photoshop and adjust the levels to where the stars look the way you want them that is all processing I did and I think it will be all you will need as well. Thank you this is how I take my star trail pictures.
