Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse

The Algoma Light was first established in 1893 as a pair of range lights. It was rebuilt in 1908 and modified again in 1932 raising the height of the light to 42 feet. In 1895 a fifth-order lens replaced the original lantern and that lens has subsequently been replaced with a plastic lens. Taken June 3, 2016 (Image 5D3-57_068a)

Eagle Bluff Lighthouse

Built in 1868, the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Fish Creek, WI, is in Door County on Lake Michigan. In 1926 the lamp was automated and the original Third and a Half Order Fresnel lens was replaced with a smaller Fifth Order lens. Taken June 1, 2016 (Image Cell-01_2254a)

Port Washington WI Lighthouse

The original Port Washington lighthouse was constructed on St. Mary's Hill in 1849 but because of poor construction was replaced in 1860. Use of the light was discontinued in 1903 when the new pierhead light that was constructed in 1889, was considered to be adequate. The lighthouse building continued to be used first by light keepers that maintained the pierhead light and then by the Coast Guard. About 1934 the light tower was removed from the building. In 1998 the property was obtained by the Port Washington Historical Lighthouse Society. A restoration project was begun in 2000, and completed in 2002, that included the addition of a new light tower. Taken June 9, 1011 (Image 5D-18_202a)

In 1934 the pierhead light you see today was constructed with a concrete pedestal base so the mariners could have an unobstructed view of the harbor. North Point Lighthouse, Milwaukee, WI. Milwaukee�s first lighthouse was erected in 1837 and this is the 2nd replacement that was built in the 1870�s because of erosion. It was constructed entirely of bolted cast iron sections. In 1912 a steel plate lower section was built and the cast iron tower was placed on top giving the light a total height of 160 feet above lake Michigan. The first lantern burned mineral oil. A new lens, installed in 1868, is still in use today. The current light source is a 25,000 candlepower lamp that is rotated electrically. The lens focuses a 1,300,000 candlepower signal visible for 25 miles. Taken June 15, 1009 (Image 5D-02_100b)

Baileys Old Harbor Light

Old Baileys Harbor Light Built in 1852, the fifty-two foot tower was capped with a birdcage-style lantern room, and equipped with a fixed white Sixth Order Fresnel lens. As was usual in lantern rooms of this style, the lens was supported in the center of the tower with no platform or catwalk surrounding the lantern room. The lens was later upgraded to a fixed white Fifth Order Fresnel in 1858. The lighthouse was abandoned in 1869 when the Range Lights were constructed. Taken May 2007 (Image 5D-02_025a)

Cana Lighthouse Third Order Fresnel Lens

Built in 1869, Cana Island Lighthouse is on the east side of the Door County peninsula on Lake Michigan and maintains a Third Order Fresnel lens. In 1944 the lamp was automated. The tower and dwelling were originally constructed of the same cream colored brick. In 1902, the deteriorating condition of the brickwork prompted the Lighthouse Board to encase the tower in steel plates. Taken May 2007 (Image D20-23_232a)

Canal Station Lighthouse

Built in 1898 and officially placed into service on March 17, 1899, the Canal Station Lighthouse, Sturgeon Bay, had a Third Order Fresnel lens exhibiting alternate red and white flashes. The new design of the tower proved problematic and a vibration developed, that took until 1903 to resolve. The light is still in use today. Taken June 2008 (Image D40-06_064a)

The Canal Station Pierhead Lighthouse, in Sturgeon Bay, was built in 1882 and officially placed into service on May 15, 1882. Shortly thereafter it was discovered that a taller light was needed and in 1899 a 98 foot tall light was constructed nearby. Both lights are still in use today. Taken June 2008 (Image D40-06_067a)

Kenosha (Southport) Lighthouse

Kenosha (Southport) Lighthouse Built in 1866, the 55-foot gray brick tower replaced two other lighthouses that were constructed on this site in 1848 and 1958. The detached two-story tan brick keepers dwelling was constructed in 1848 and is currently be refurbished. The lantern room originally contained a Fourth Order Fresnel Lens fueled by kerosene. In 1932, lumberman W. J. Nuss built this forty foot lighthouse in Lakeside Park using plans donated by architect Roger A. Sutherland. During this time, the country was suffering through the Great Depression and laborers employed on the lighthouse project were all out-of-work Fund du Lac citizens. After years of neglect it was saved from demolition in 1967 and restored in 1993 with help from local community organizations. Taken June 2008 (Image D40-06_182a)

Kenosha North Pier Lighthouse

The Kenosha North Pier Lighthouse was lit for the first time in 1906 and had a 50 foot high Light with a Fourth Order Fresnel Lens which was made in Paris France. It now has a rotating plastic airport beacon. Taken June 2008 (Image D40-06_218a)

Lake Winnebago - Buckstaff�s

Having had many names over time (Buckstaff , Bray, & Thompson) the lighthouse was privately built in 1909 by William Bray at the Fox River entrance to Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh Wisconsin. In 1917 it was the only government licensed inland light. During the late 1950s, the light was not lit, but after restoration in 1986 it was relit and continues to beam with a fixed red light today. Lake Winnebago - Asylum Point

The lighthouse was part of a 1937 project of the Works Progress Administration, but was rejected by the Department of Transportation as a navigational light for the lake and was thus never lit.
